It’s Respect Your Cat Day on Thursday 28 March.
Belvedere, along with many other cat commentators, harrumphs that this is a ridiculously egregious notion, as every day is Respect your Cat day.
This is of course true, as 99.99 % of cats would agree (leaving .01% for Mr Statistical Anomaly} but I think Belvedere has not Thought this Through, as you will see.
Respect Your Cat Day is an international event, but no-one knows who established it or when; some say 2006, others say 2014; even more others say it is to commemorate an edict passed on 28 March 1384 by Richard III of England making it illegal to eat cats. Some think it was set up by an anonymous introvert cat lover who shunned fame.
I suspect it was devised by a Cat Don. (The scene in The Godfather where Vito Corleone is playing with his cat while accusing a quivering minion of disrespect supports this theory neatly I feel.
See the clip here but you must return for more Clowder news!
How to Respect Your Cat ? The internet is awash with advice, all of which boils down to
* spend more time playing with your cat
* learn about cat behaviour and how to interact with your cat without pissing them off; in other words, surrender your will to theirs
* pamper them
* provide new toys
* serve extra special treats.
That seems to be a win-win to me. It’s waste of time nitpicking about every day being Respect Your Cat Day, when just accepting it delivers such rewards. Eyes on the Prizes, Belvedere, don’t be a slave to ideology.
