Cats at Sea

Following the maritime triumph of SC Oli Williams (see blog 04-01), Belvedere has become quite unbearably nautical; he has taken to purring in the present tense and staring slit-eyed at the horizon.
He has also been researching other moggy salts, of whom there are many. This is Convoy, who served on the light cruiser HMS Hermione as she escorted supply ship convoys crossing the North Atlantic during World War II. He was a registered crew member, issued with a full kit including his own cat-sized hammock.
A much loved sailor, he stayed with the Hermione until the end, when she was torpedoed in June 1942. Convoy was lost along with 87 of his shipmates.
We could all be heroes, but Convoy and his crew most certainly were.
