Scottish Fold Day

Wednesday, 13 December 2023 09:16

December 13th is the day dedicated to Foldies round the world. All Scottish Folds are descended from one farm cat, Susie, who possessed the signature folded ears, and passed them onto her kittens, starting in 1961.

A cat fancier, William Ross, started breeding from one of the kittens and within a decade, the world was falling in love with the chunky, soft, sweet, affectionate, smart, sociable, big-eyed and above all, round, cats. Their flat folded ears give them a beseeching quality that is hard to resist. They look like an adorable cross between an owl and a teddy bear.

The trouble is  the genetic mutation that origamis their ears causes other, more painful conditions, and the breed is banned in several countries. However, Belvedere and I do not want to put a downer on their day, so we will save that for another time.
